Member Spotlight: Threads of Hope Hellas, Greece
We recently caught up with Eva-Lena Hellmark from Threads of Hope Hellas to hear about their journey of building a sustainable textile business, developing leadership within their team, and creating new opportunities for women rebuilding their lives.
Tell us about your business.
Threads of Hope Hellas is a Greek social enterprise producing handmade textile products, including their well-known aprons, while providing employment and skills development opportunities for women who have experienced exploitation. Over the years, Threads of Hope has built a strong local reputation for the quality of their products and has become part of a growing network of organisations in Athens supporting survivors through employment, services, and community.
What’s one exciting development this quarter?
Threads of Hope is entering an exciting new season as their local team takes on more responsibility in the day-to-day running of the organisation. They are also seeing women within their team step into new roles — from training others in sewing to taking on production supervision, photography, and social media responsibilities. They are also strengthening partnerships with fellow FBA member Starfish Project, exploring opportunities to expand product distribution and reach new markets.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned recently?
One key lesson has been the importance of building a strong business foundation alongside their social mission. Threads of Hope has been reflecting on how to create sustainable employment pathways while continuing to invest in the growth and development of the women they employ.
What are possible ways you’d like to collaborate with other FBA members?
Threads of Hope would love to continue learning from other Freedom Businesses, especially around marketing, ethical storytelling, and building sustainable employment models. They are excited about opportunities to share experiences and collaborate across the FBA community, particularly as the Freedom Business movement continues to grow in Europe.

“I am liberated from the trade, so I want all women trapped in the brothels to be liberated as well. I used to be afraid of people but now I am afraid of no one. All women should have the opportunity to do fine work, to live with dignity and respect, and be able to realize their own value.”
